Varun Beverages Expands Operations in Africa through Key Acquisitions
Indian conglomerate Varun Beverages, one of the largest bottlers of PepsiCo outside the U.S., has just taken a significant stride in expanding its operations on the African continent. The company has completed the acquisition of the bottling operations of PepsiCo in Ghana and Tanzania and thus solely owns SBC Beverages Ghana and SBC Tanzania. The step taken by Varun Beverages will further help it strengthen its distribution network across these fast-growing African markets, which is well-placed to gain from increasing urbanization and an expanding middle class.
This move also forms part of the company’s wider strategy of expanding its presence in high-growth emerging markets. The Indian company is now better placed, with full ownership of these key bottling assets, to achieve full local production, an expanded product range, and enhanced distribution. Beyond this, the acquisition will create significant positive economic impact through the creation of employment opportunities and supporting community development projects, further reinforcing Varun’s commitment to long-term sustainable growth in Africa
