Accra, Ghana – The KFC Diwali Cup 2024 cricket tournament, hosted by the Indian Association, concluded with a thrilling finish on October 20, 2024, at the Dzorwulu Turf Ground. Out of 12 competing community teams, the Ghana Tamil Association (GTA) clinched the title, defeating the Karnataka Association Ghana in a closely fought final, in front of an enthusiastic crowd of supporters.
The grand finale was marked by a lively closing ceremony, attended by His Excellency Manish Gupta, the High Commissioner of India to Ghana, who presented the championship trophy to the victorious GTA captain, Arumugam Venkatesh. The Karnataka Association Ghana captain, Mr. Shabareesh, accepted the runner-up trophy from Mr. Derric, representing title sponsor KFC.
A highlight of the tournament was the recognition of Fany John from the Ghana Tamil Association, who claimed the Best Bowler award, taking 7 wickets and being named Best Female Player of the tournament. Her remarkable performance underscored the growing prominence of women in cricket.
Merbin Sam of GTA was named Best Batsman and Most Valuable Player, thanks to his stellar consistency throughout the tournament. Meanwhile, Sanam from the Punjab Association Cricket Club earned the Best Fielder title for his excellent fielding skills.
The KFC Diwali Cup 2024 not only showcased thrilling cricket but also fostered a sense of community, with women players making significant contributions to their teams. The event was hailed as a resounding success, bringing together cricket fans and players from Ghana’s Indian diaspora for an unforgettable celebration of sport and culture.
